our approach

Design for the real world

What kind of designers are we? Sensitive, creative, expert, attentive and absolutely professional, say clients.

When you work with Calverts, you're not buying a Calverts house style. You're tapping into a flexible resource of experience, creativity and project management know how which will deliver your visuals, campaigns, publications, websites and marketing collateral on time, on budget and on brand.

Designing for the real world means developing solutions that are not just beautiful and engaging, but also mindful of resources and people. We work with our clients to deliver printed and electronic communications that are financially and environmentaly sustainable. To us, this means no wasted words, no wasted materials and no wasted effort; or, as someone once said, designing on the principle that 'less is more'.

Publications design

Good Health in Good Hands

Client: General Osteopathic Council
Project: Osteopathy Today brochure

GOsC regulates practice and education for the UK's osteopathic profession. Stepping outside the organisation's usual remit, it  was decided to develop and publish a substantial publication, marking the 10th anniversary of osteopathy becoming an approved NHS therapy.

The brief: this would be a piece for diverse audiences, from health commissioners to members of the general public - professional but accessible in tone, style and content, and produced to the highest environmental printing standards, but without appearing too 'worthy'. The requirement: to write copy, illustrate, design, print and publish to web.

The solution: Our associate, journalist and broadcaster Alison Rice, wrote sparkling copy in Crystal Mark English; the Calverts design team created engaging information graphics and attractive pages, balancing photography, illustration and text; the repro and print team made 10,000 copies on Evolution 75% post-consumer recycled silk coated paper, using Bio vegetable oil based inks.

The impact: Good Health in Good hands was distributed and nationwide through clinics, health centres and GOsC's network of members, and became a uniquely effective tool for informing commissioners, policymakers and the public about osteopathy, and for promoting the benefits of osteopathic treatment. Calverts was subsequently appointed to update GOsC's visual branding and identity, and, as we write, Good Health in Good Hands is being revised and republished.
