Designed by Gerald Holtom for the CND movement in 1958, the Peace symbol is one of the most widely recognised symbols in the world. Holtom made the design by combining the semaphore letters N and D: N for nuclear and D for disarmament The original sketches are preserved at the Department of Peace Studies at the University of Bradford.
